Terms of service

Short, and in plain language. Read this before you buy, not after.

What this is

Will You Bury Me is a guided questionnaire that produces a printable document of end-of-life instructions, plus a way to ask one person to hold that document. It is sold by Nondescripts (Jon May, Ventura, California) for a one-time fee of $19.

What this is not

It is not a will, a trust, a power of attorney, or an advance health care directive. It does not transfer property, name an executor, appoint a guardian, or override a single word of any legal instrument you have signed. If your will and this document disagree, the will wins.

It is not legal advice. Nondescripts is not a law firm, nobody here is your lawyer, and using this product creates no attorney-client relationship. Nothing in the document has been reviewed for your particular situation. For anything involving property, money, custody, or a dispute, talk to someone licensed in your state.

The one part that can carry legal weight

Written directions for the disposition of your remains can be legally binding in many states when they are clear and complete and the cost of carrying them out has been provided for. In California that is Health and Safety Code section 7100.1. The body-and-service page of the document is built to meet those requirements, and it is signed and dated so that nobody has to wonder whether the directions are yours, but whether it does in your state, and whether it is honored, depends on your state's law and on the people handling your arrangements. Confirm the rules where you live.

Buying it

  • The price is $19, once. There are no tiers, subscriptions, renewals, or upsells.
  • Payment is processed by Stripe. We never see your card number.
  • The price includes the full document, a print-ready PDF, the ask-and-accept for one person and one backup, a yearly reminder on a date you pick, and free updates and reprints for as long as the service runs.
  • Optional card: $29 total ($10 on top of the document). One printed card that asks the question, mailed to the address you give us, in the United States only, for you to hand to your person. Allow up to ten business days. The card is not refundable once it has shipped; the document itself still is, under the refund terms below. We never print your answers; the document is yours to print.

Refunds

If you get partway through and decide it is not for you, email hello@willyouburyme.com within 30 days of purchase and we will refund it. No form, no reason required.

Your responsibilities

  • Give accurate information. The document is only as useful as what you put in it.
  • Do not put passwords, PINs, recovery codes, account or card numbers, your Social Security number, or medical records into any answer. The questions are written so you never need to, and we do not want them.
  • Only name a person whose email address you are entitled to use, and who you actually intend to ask.
  • Print it, sign it, and keep it somewhere your person knows about. A document nobody can find has not done its job.

Your person

The person you name may accept, decline, or never respond. We will tell you which. We cannot make anyone say yes, and their acceptance is a personal commitment to you, not a contract with us or a legal appointment of any kind.

Your content

Your answers belong to you. We use them only to generate your document and to run the features described on this site and in the privacy policy. You can export or delete them at any time.

If we shut down

The document is designed to work as paper, without us. If the service closes, we will email you, give you a way to export your answers, and then delete everything on our side.

Limits of our responsibility

The service is provided as is. To the fullest extent the law allows, Nondescripts is not liable for any loss arising from your use of the document or the service, including a document that is lost, not found, not followed, or not honored by a third party, and including any indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the product. Some states do not allow these limits, in which case they apply only as far as the law permits.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Ventura County, California, and you agree to that venue.

Changes

If these terms change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and, once you have an account, you receive an email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept the new terms.
