The honest version, not the policy version. This page says what this website collects, what the document keeps once you buy it, and what you can do about either.

Who we are

Will You Bury Me is a product of Nondescripts, a consultancy owned by Jon May in Ventura, California. Questions about this policy go to hello@willyouburyme.com.

What the website itself collects

Almost nothing.

  • No cookies. None at all, first party or third party.
  • Traffic counts, without tracking you. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. It sets no cookies, stores no IP addresses, and does not build a profile of you or follow you to other sites. It is the only script on this site that talks to anyone but us. No advertising scripts, no pixels, no session recording.
  • Fonts are served from this site, not from Google or anyone else. Apart from the Cloudflare analytics beacon above, the site makes no third-party requests.
  • No accounts. There is nothing to log into; your document is reached by a private link that is emailed to you.

The web server that hosts this site keeps standard access logs (the IP address that requested a page, the page, the time, and the browser type). Those logs are used only to keep the site running and secure, and are rotated by the hosting provider in the normal course of operation.

Because there are no cookies and no tracking, there is no cookie banner. If that ever changes, this page changes first and a notice appears on the site.

What the document keeps

This is the complete list of what we keep once you buy. It matches what the home page says, and it will not quietly grow.

  • Your email address.
  • Your answers to the questions, because they are needed to regenerate your document and to send the yearly reminder.
  • The name and email address of your person, and of your backup if you name one.
  • A payment record from Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
  • If you choose the card: the mailing address you give us for it, kept only until the envelope has shipped, then deleted. We never print your answers.

And what we never keep, by design:

  • Passwords, PINs, or recovery codes.
  • Account numbers or card numbers.
  • Your Social Security number.
  • Medical records of any kind.
  • Anything that is inside the safe.

We record where the key is. Never the key.

How it is used

Your answers are used to build your printable document and to send it to the person you name when they accept. Your email is used to send you your document, to tell you when your person accepts or declines, and to send one reminder a year on the date you choose. That reminder is the only recurring email. There is no newsletter, and your email is never sold, rented, or shared with anyone for marketing.

Your person

The person you name receives one email from us, containing your name, the one line you wrote, and two buttons. They are not added to any list. If they decline, or if you change your person, they receive one closing note and nothing further. We never ask for their home address.

Your choices

  • Export everything. Download all of your answers at any time, from the Settings page of your document.
  • Delete everything. Erase your answers, your person's details, and your email from our systems at any time, from the same page, without asking us and without a waiting period.
  • One and done. At purchase you can choose to generate your document, download it, and have your answers erased automatically after thirty days. You keep the paper. We keep nothing but the payment record.
  • Stop the reminder. Clear the date in Settings and no further reminders are sent.

Security

Your answers and your person's details are encrypted at rest with a key that lives only on the server, and everything travels over HTTPS. Payment is handled entirely by Stripe under its own security program. Access to stored answers is limited to what is needed to generate documents and send the emails described above.

Who else touches the data

Only the services needed to run the product: a hosting provider for the site and database, Stripe for payment, and a transactional email service for the emails described above. Each is bound by its own privacy terms and receives only what it needs to do its job. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

California residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act you have the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to delete it, to correct it, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. The export and delete controls above are how you exercise them; you can also email hello@willyouburyme.com. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front.

Children

This product is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and, if you have bought the document, you receive an email before the change takes effect.
