Accessibility

A document meant to be read on the worst day by someone who is exhausted has to be readable by everyone. We hold the website to the same standard.

Our standard

This site is built to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we treat that as the floor, not the ceiling.

What that means in practice

  • Every text and background pairing meets or exceeds a 4.5:1 contrast ratio (3:1 for large headings), including the amber accent, which is darkened wherever it appears as text on the paper ground.
  • The page is built from real headings, landmarks, and lists, so screen readers can navigate it section by section. A skip link at the top of every page jumps straight to the content.
  • Everything works with a keyboard alone. Every link and control shows a visible focus ring, and every target is at least 24 pixels tall.
  • Text can be zoomed to 200 percent and the layout reflows without horizontal scrolling. The site works on a phone in either orientation.
  • Motion is minimal and respects the "reduce motion" setting in your operating system.
  • Decorative elements, including the paper grain, the hand-drawn marks, and the sample document, are hidden from assistive technology so they do not add noise.
  • No content flashes, autoplays, or requires a time limit.

The printed document

The document itself is designed for print at a minimum body size of 11 point on white paper with high-contrast black ink, and the PDF will carry a proper tagged structure so it reads correctly in a screen reader before it is printed.

Tell us what we missed
